How to prepare Matcha (video)

By: Keith

Matcha is the powdered version of Tencha.  It is a shade grown tea that is high in amino acids and chlorophyll.  It is probably the most healthy of all teas simply by virtue of it being entirely consumed rather than steeped.  It is highly relaxing while still having a high cafeine content (which seems antithetical but isn’t).  There is significant apprehension among westerners about matcha because it is seen as overly complicated.  That is true and not true.  The tea ceremony itself is quite a production that can be very easily screwed up.  Yet the actual preparation of the tea is nothing special at all.  Anybody can enjoy it on any level.  It was once reserved for royalty and monks alone.  That is no longer the case.  I encourage everybody to enjoy the pleasure that is Matcha.  Do not be intimidated by the exoticism of the ceremony.  For even the ceremony can be as simple or as intricate as one would like.  It is an expression of imperfect perfection, and is to be performed with extreme mindfullness.  We can all acheive a degree of mindefullness in our preparation without being a monk.
