Christmas is not my favorite holiday. A lot about the commercialism of Christmas rubs me the wrong way. However, I’m not one who can’t have a little fun with it either. I pride myself on picking out presents for people that, while they may not necessarily need, they absolutely think are cool and unique. I’ve decided that over the next few weeks I’m going to put together several lists of toys that are a little different, somewhat geeky and definitely awesome as far as I’m concerned. Here’s the first batch!
My boys are slowly learning how to play chess. They also play Nintendo. I figure it’s a match made in heaven.
It’s a proven fact that people who eat with chopsticks eat slower and digest their food better. These things are awesome for the whole family!
Eye Clops Night Vision Goggles
Real night vision for under 100 bucks? yes indeed. The reviews on Amazon are mixed but mostly positive. Seems it’s a legitimate piece of gadgetry.
Want a cool stocking stuffer? How about glow in the dark shoelaces? Remember in the 80′s when we all thought neon shoelaces were so hot? Well, how much cooler would we have thought glow in the dark laces were?
Talk about a completely unnecessary product. This this is just fun, and that’s it. My boys would love it. and at 15 dollars it’s not too expensive for a whimsical gift.
I know a few boys who would like and one particular mom who wouldn’t. It magnifies bugs 3.5 times for easy inspection and then release. Pretty neat, huh?
I have a nephew who really loves construction equipment. This is the truck for him. It’s a 1:50 scale dump truck. At a little over 100 dollars it isn’t cheap, but you won’t find a better toy truck around.
Young Architect Skyscraper Construction Kit
Do you have a budding architect in the family? This Skscraper construction kit doesn’t mess around. It comes with full blown blue-prints and is not your typical Lego creation. It’s also 300 dollars. But, for a kid who’s into building things, this is the ultimate gift.
I gave my boy my old Dell Laptop and it lasted all of a week before he wrecked it for good. I’ve also bought those cheap fake laptops that don’t really do anything. This PeeWee PC is the real deal. It comes loaded with Windows XP, kid friendly software , a web cam and has spill and impact resistant construction. It isn’t cheap at between 500 and 600 dollars, but it is a real laptop made specifically for kids. Didn’t know there was such a thing? Now you know.
This is a toy and a puzzle all in one. It comes with a full assortment of planes and everything. It’s also only 8 dollars.
La Navidad no es mi día festivo favorito. Es toda la cantidad de comercialismo que hay alrededor de la Navidad lo que me más me molesta. Sin embargo, tampoco soy alguien que no va a tener un poco de diversión con esta. Yo estoy orgulloso de poder seleccionar regalos para personas que, aunque no les necesiten necesariamente, son cosas absolutamente únicas y padres. ¿Quieres un regalo para poner en las botas de la chimenea que sea padre? ¿Qué tal agujetas para zapatos que brillan en la obscuridad? ¿Recuerdas en los 80’s cuando creíamos que las agujetas de color neón eran súper padres? Bueno, ¿cuánto más padres hubieran sido las que actualmente brillan en la obscuridad?
Hablando de un producto completamente innecesario. Este es simplemente por diversión, y eso es todo. A mis hijos les encantaría. Y por 15 dólares no está mal para ser un regalo caprichoso.
Conozco unos cuantos niños y una mamá en particular a los que no les gustaría este regalo. Magnifica la vista 3.5 veces el tamaño real para fácil inspección y luego dejarles ir. ¿Es padre, no?
Yo tengo un sobrino que verdaderamente ama todo tipo de equipo de construcción. Este es el camión para él. Es un camión de descarga a una escala de 1:50. No es barato pues cuesta un poco más de 100 dólares, pero no vas poder encontrar un mejor camión en ningún otro lado.

¿Tienes a algún futuro arquitecto en la familia? Este equipo de construcción de rascacielos no es broma. Viene con un completo set de planos de construcción y no es tu creación típica de legos. También cuesta 300 dólares. Pero, para un niño al que le gusta construir, este es el máximo regalo.

You really did find some cool stuff! Love the goggles and the voice changer. (My teenage boys would still chuckle over those things.) I also find the commercialization this time of year distressing – especially when money is tight. But I think our kids have adjusted expectations – money is tight everywhere.
Often, the coolest things can be found for $5, and after all, what most kids want is to be with family. Uh… until they’re teens that is. Then they want to hang with friends, and be cool in other ways. Not sure the goggles would apply.
