Today we have a gust post by Ben from My RadDad.

Hello! My name is Ben and I have a blog called MyRadDad (you can check it out if you’d like). I have 3 daughters. I am surrounded by so much pink. Pink isn’t the result of just having girls, all the pink is because I have girly girls.

My oldest, who is 4, will not be seen in anything other than a pretty dress (or her underwear when she is at home). She has always been fascinated with dangly earrings or necklaces she calls “pretties”, or pretty shoes and painted nails.

She just loves girly stuff. Pink is her favorite color, light pink is her second favorite color, very light pink is her third favorite color, she dances, sings, puts on her own toe nail polish and asks often about makeup [which I have made off limits until she is 25 years old ].

Being a guy I have always dreamed of having a son who I can play guns with, play ninjas with, play cars with, build forts… You know guy stuff. When my wife and I found out we were having a 3rd girl I decided that I would just start doing these “boy” activities with my girls and if they like it great, if not… I’ll build more stages for them so they can put on dance and singing recitals (which by the way is so freaking cute I get teared up just thinking about them singing and dancing for me).

Nerf Guns, Forts and Wrestling.

So I decided to buy Nerf guns, a king size stretchy bed sheet and introduce my girls to a whole new realm of awesomeness.

Wouldn’t you know it, but my girls LOVE Nerf gun battles, forts and wrestling. They literally ask to wrestle and build a fort every single night. So usually we just do the two together.

I’m not even sure how this came about, but I am usually a bear when we build forts. Sometimes a bad bear and sometimes a good bear, depending on how the girls want me to act.

Our forts are no joke either. I rearrange the furniture, stretch that California King Sized bed sheet over the top off two couches, a chair and stick a broom underneath to hold up the sheet. The sheet by the way is bright pink. Our forts can be pretty large, and they always have an “escape route” that only the girls can fit through, not the big bad bear.

The Nerf guns are battery powered 10 shot guns so you do not even have to cock them. Besides the one rule of ‘no aiming for the face’ our living room is a wild free for all of forts, wrestling, Nerf guns, bears and pure awesome.

My girls are still 100% girly girls, that has not changed, I am the one who has changed. My perception that I needed boys to do “Boy” things was wrong. My girls put no labels on what gender of little kid would like this best, all they know is they LOVE playing guns, forts and wrestling with Dad and that is enough for me!

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Ben y yo tengo un blog llamado MyRadDad (puedes checarlo si quieres).  Tengo 3 hijas.  Y estoy rodeado de demasiado color rosado.  El color rosado no es simplemente el resultado de tener niñas, todo el rosado es porque mis hijas son femeninas.

Mi hija mayor, quien tiene 4 años de edad, no sale a ningún lado en público si no lleva un vestido bonito (o su ropa interior mona cuando está en casa).  Ella siempre ha estado fascinada con aretes colgantes o collares que ella llama “preciosos”, o zapatos bonitos y uñas pintadas.

Ella simplemente ama las cosas femeninas.  El rosado es su color favorito, el rosado claro es su segundo color favorito, y el color rosado my clarito es su tercer color favorito,  a ella le gusta bailar, cantar, pintarse las uñas de los pies y con frecuencia me pide que le compre maquillaje [el cual he puesto fuera de alcance hasta que cumpla los 25 años de edad :-) ].

Siendo hombre yo siempre he soñado con tener  un hijo con quien jugar a las pistolas, a los ninjas, con quien jugar cartas, construir fuertes, etc.  En general, cosa de varones.  Pero cuando mi esposa y yo nos enteramos que nuestro tercer bebé era otra niña yo decidí que iba a comenzar a hacer este tipo de actividades de “niños” con mis hijas, y si a ellas les gustaban, pues qué bien, y si no…pues les construiré más escenarios para que me hagan más presentaciones de bailes y cantos y recitales (los cuales por cierto son tan súper tiernos que hasta me hacen soltar las lágrimas de solo pensar en ellas bailando y cantando para mí).

Armas de Nerf, Fuertes y Luchas.

Así que decidí comprar armas de Nerf, una sábana estrechable tamaño King Size e introducir a mis hijas a todo un mundo nuevo de maravillas.

No te lo has de imaginar, pero mis hijas AMAN las batallas con armas Nerf, los fuertes y las luchas.  Ellas literalmente me piden que luche con ellas y que les construya fuertes todas las noches.  Así que usualmente hacemos las dos cosas a la vez.

Yo no estoy seguro como comenzó esto, pero usualmente yo termino siendo un oso cuando construimos fuertes.  Algunas veces un oso bueno y algunas veces un oso malo, dependiendo de qué tipo de papel mis hijas quieren que tome.

Nuestros fuertes tampoco son cosa sencilla.  Yo remuevo los muebles estiro esa sábana tamaño King Size sobre dos de mis sillones y una silla, y atoro un palo de escoba en medio para levantar el techo.  La sábana por cierto, es de color rosado brillante.  Nuestros fuertes en ocasiones son bastante largos, y siempre tienen una “ruta de escape” por la que solo mis hijas caben, pero no el gran oso malo.

Las armas de Nerf son de pilas y disparan 10 dardos así uno ni siquiera tiene que cargarlas.  Además de la única regla de “no disparar a la cara” nuestra sala es área libre para todos nuestros fuertes, batallas,  luchas libres, osos, y simples maravillas.

Mis hijas siguen siendo 100% femeninas, eso no ha cambiado, yo soy el que ha cambiado.  Mi precepción de que necesitaba tener hijos varones para hacer “cosas de niños” estaba equivocada.  Mis hijas no les ponen etiquetas de género a lo que a un niño le guste jugar más, lo único que saben es que les ENCANTA jugar con armas, fuertes y a las luchas con su papá, ¡y eso es más que suficiente para mí!
