One Year Anniversary of Almightydad.com
By: Keith
Today, friends, is the one year anniversary of my blog. I’ve written almost 400,000 words this year covering some topics I know well and others that I’ve had to research. In either case my writing has improved and my blogging knowledge has grown. In fact, the first thing I ever wrote for this blog, Love Before Education, was, I thought at the time, just about awesome. Looking back on it now I can see how far I’ve come. Well, since today is anniversary day, I’ll treat you to some facts and stats. The thing I’m most proud of, the fact that is most important to me is this: I have written at least one article a day every day this year. On the days I wrote guest posts for someone else I still posted something on Almightydad too. I have not missed a single day in the last 365.
1. This blog, as some of you may remember, started as Mekeliki.com. Interestingly, Mekeliki.com has a google page rank 5, while Almightydad has only a 4. I wisely connected them last month.
2. Today will, coincidentally, be my 400th post including videos and guest posts (383 articles not including videos).
3. We’ve had 7 guest writers and 15 guest posts.
4. I’ve had almost 400,000 visitors since I began on this date last year.
5. This month I will have about 22,000 unique visits, which is up about 10% from the last 3 months.
6. My biggest single day was October 30th – 1,227 unique visitors.
7. We’ve been read in 177 countries. The top 10 are USA, Mexico, Spain, Canada, UK, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Australia and Peru. (Bonus – Kyrgystan is the only one of the 177 countries with just one visit).
8. Almost half our visits are to the Spanish side of Almightydad (we’re in Spanish too).
9. My most popular article is 20 Easy Halloween Costume Ideas with 58,361 views.
10. The least popular article has been ¡Toca un instrumento de verdad, por Dios! Rock Band 3 (15 visits)
11. My top 10 articles have a combined total of 237,535 views. I guess the other 390 articles must feel a bit shafted.
12. The article with the most comments is Send Out Cards: You’ve been Had with 158 (many of which are my own). Its accompanying article, The Hard Truth about MLM Schemes- an Inside Look at SendOutCards.com has just 32 responses. Goes to show you never know what people will get riled up about.
13. I’ve spammed 3,928 comments and approved 3,419. Spam wins I guess.
14. I’ve been stuck at Google Page Rank 4 for the last 6 months. I used to care but not anymore.
15. I’ve taken only one free product from a company wanting a review. It was the Hooked on Phonics Series K-2. I felt comfortable doing that because I truly believe in it, and we’ve used it from the beginning with both Neil and Alan – the results are obvious.
16. There has been only one article to which I’ve had to close comments — When you’ve Gotta Go you’ve Gotta Go. It was about letting the kids pee in a bush when the bathrooms are unavailable. My visitors got so weird and pervy that I deleted a bunch of their comments and closed it.
17. 90% of my visitors are new and 65% of them come from search engines rather than referring sites. That means, essentially, that I have no base. I have a small group of people who regularly come back, but most come from keyword searches. I need a customer retention plan.
My goal for next year is to simply keep growing and keep writing. I may not write every day anymore as that was a bit of a personal dare for this year, but I’ll try. The one analytical goal I have is to get more of a loyal following. I’d like to better engage other bloggers and connect with the people who have been loyal all this time. I thought that by now I would have a hard time thinking of subjects to write about. Thankfully I’m opinionated and stubborn; it’s not difficult to find subjects. Sometimes I’m hated and sometimes not. Whatever the case you should know I’m not faking it. What I say is really my opinion. I’ll keep writing if you’ll keep reading. Thanks for a great year, friends!

Congratulations!!!
It’s being a great year indeed.
Congratulations, Keith! I look forward to enjoyable, informative, and entertaining reading, no matter how often you post.
I’ll also be searching for the opportunity to post comments…
Thank you, Doo Dilly!
I’ll keep writing as long as people keep reading.
Big Congrats Keith. I’m thoroughly impressed. I was thinking to my self a few days ago “how the heck does he do it?” Which was weird because the next day I saw your “bits of randomness” post about ideas you’re considering making into blogs. I can’t believe you get so many spam messages!! WOW! Quick question, you said you’re page rank on Google for #4. On what search term, or did I miss that somewhere. I am “subscribed” to a few blogs (mostly to support my friends rather than because I’m look forward to the posts) but yours is the first I have checked often (and not just because of the blog you might be thinking of). I actually really enjoy it. (Sorry I’m ranting again).

The ability to do so much in a year is admirable. But the discipline to stay so consistent is inspiring. “kudos”! I mean it! I’m a bit jealous… (but in a “I want to do someday like you and wish I knew how to get started” purely admiration spirit type of way). Looking forward to much more. {Side Note: DooDilly, I like that you are on this blog too!
Hethe: Thanks for the kind words
It’s hard to keep it up on a daily basis, but it’s worth the effort.
Hethe: If I remember correctly, I was referring to my Google page rank 4. That’s a measure of overall website strength which generally improves with an increase of quality links to other blogs and websites. It can decrease with too many outbound links. I allow more outbound links than I probably should and that hurts my strength a little (that’s why I’m so careful to only allow links that add to discussions, and I eject ones that seem like they might be spam). I should be PR5, but because of all my outbound links, I got a PR4 instead. Thanks again, Hethe!
Hethe: I forgot, I’m not looking at the post, but I rank highly on a lot of good keywords. The best one for me is “dad blogs”. And, not surprising as you know, through some twist of the cosmos, wound up ranking on the term that originally brought you here (our favorite company! HAHA). Out of the 415 articles I’ve written, only perhaps 30 of them get good rankings. I guess that goes to prove that blogging is as much about volume as it is about quality. Eventually you just hit the good terms by pure luck (or misfortune depending on the topic
).
HAHA! You know what they say… there is no such thing as bad publicity! “Dad Blogs” was a smart one to do… being that you are a Dad Blogger. Smart!
