Make Great Herbal Tea With Frozen Fruit

By: Keith

I was sitting around this past weekend and noticed my friend, who had come to visit, at my kitchen table scooping strawberries out of a mug.  I was  drinking some tasty Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea.  I asked him “What gives with the berries in the mug?”  He said “Why not use real fruit for tea if you have it?”  To which I replied “I’ve never thought of that – duh.”  And that’s how I’m now hooked on making herbal tea with frozen berries and spices (but no actual herbs yet — perhaps we should call it fruit/spice tea).

One:  Get some frozen berries at Walmart (because they sell good frozen berries much cheaper than Safeway).  A 4 lb bag of wild blueberries is 10 dollars.  4 lbs of strawberries is something like 6 bucks.

Two:  Fill a mug about 1/3 full of said berries, sprinkle on some Cinnamon or whatever other spice you like.

Three:  Fill with hot water and drink.  When you’re done drinking just spoon out the berries and eat them.

It really couldn’t be easier or healthier.  I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.  I’ll still drink my Celestial Seasonings, Matcha, and other teas.  But this makes for an interesting twist which I’ve tried and can attest tastes great.

 Make Your Life Easier:

Buy yourself a Zojirushi hot water pot that can keep water at a constant almost-boil so you can make tea without bothering with a kettle (I set mine to 195 degrees but it goes up to 208 if you prefer).  Mine also dechlorinates water; I run water through a Britta Filter then the Zojirushi machine finishes dechlorinating it.  The result is perfect tea and good tasting water for every purpose.

Mom: I just about wanted to kick myself after I saw Dennis with that cup of fresh tea. I’ve been drinking various teas for years, and he breezes in and thinks of that kind of awesomeness. Funny though
