Shoot Your Way to a Safer Future
By: Keith

I am a firm believer in citizen’s rights to carry weapons. This video (below) explains why. When I was little my dad told me that the Swiss have one of the biggest armies in Europe, and I wondered how that could be since they are, by reputation, a peaceful and neutral country (which is exactly how I think we ought to be by the way).
He explained how every household in Switzerland was intended to be able to mobilize at a moment’s notice in case of national emergency. So, obviously it isn’t a traditional army. Rather it’s a citizen army. Beyond the efficiency of homeland protection, it’s cost effective for the government. It keeps the homeland safe, and it keeps it honest. The guy in this video reveals exactly why he is a gun rights advocate. It was not a foreign government that killed the German Jews, Gypsies, Gays and Handicapped during WWII; it was Germany’s elected government. This guy isn’t about to let himself or his family become victims.
I’m not saying our government is even remotely close to becoming tyrannical. But, perhaps that is the case because we still have the ability to defend ourselves. I want my kids to grow up in a world where they will never have to use their guns to defend themselves. There are people who would like us to give up our guns. They believe in the power of the government to protect us all. That’s fine for them, but they can’t make that decision for me; I am responsible for my family, not the government or my neighbor. While it may be true that we have a benevolent government, I cannot take the risk that it will remain so – for my kids’ sake, I can’t.

I would say it’s very close and they will soon be eating frog soup.
Frog Soup? We are indeed getting close to complete impotence, that’s true.
Great post. The people in this country have so lost track of what basic yet fundamental need our government is for and have given it all kinds of power to decide freedoms we can and cannot have, counter to the whole point of it’s original intent to protect these. Give us our freedoms back and this right is an excellent example.
Goss, you are correct of course. People think government will protect them and they don’t see that often times it is government itself which imprisons them. Perhaps it will be too late when these people open their eyes.
This was my favorite quote from the clip… “The key to freedom is the ability to defend yourself.”
I say whatever form this takes for your household is your business. But I can’t help but believe that as time goes by, the general public is less and less able to defend themselves, or even try to.

Scott, I like that quote too. The guy echoes almost everything I believe about gun ownership. We don’t own them so we can cause trouble. We own them so that if trouble finds us we can defend ourselves. That is the essence of responsible gun ownership. Too bad our own government and some other western governments have decided that any means of protecting ourselves is unlawful. Recent case in GB is what I’m thinking of. Some guy got locked up for simply carrying a knife. He had been threatened multiple times by neighborhood hooligans so he decided to carry a knife just in case. A cop randomly decided to check him and found the knife. Well, they threw him in jail instead of finding the real thugs. Figures.
Yes. I agree. 100%.
It always scares me when I hear “talk” about the possibility of taking guns away from the “common man” in our country. If that day ever comes, it will be a frightening day indeed and, surely, will lead to the demise of our country.

Thanks, Stephanie. It’s always reassuring to know that I’m not alone in my constitutional worry. Sometimes it’s tough for people to say what they really think these days. It was a convenient time to say it, and the video did a better job than I probably could have anyway.
